CEO Mama Newsletter: 12th Edition

Hi ,

My name is Valerie and I am the Head of Delivery at Bossbabe, and I wanted to share a moment with you that hit me right in the gut — one I know many of you will relate to.

I was driving around the lake with my daughter, Maya, when out of nowhere, she blurted out:

"Mom, you work ALL the time."

My first reaction? ALL?! ALL the time?! Really?! 😭

It stung.

I felt an immediate pang of guilt, like I was failing as a mom.

Here I was, fresh off a two-week family trip to Africa — where we woke up to Safari drives, floated in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti, and spent time doing non-profit work in local villages.

I had been present. Engaged. Sharing breathtaking experiences with my family.

And yet, in her eyes, I was always working.

At that moment, I started mentally cataloging everything.

Did I do enough?

Was I present enough?

Am I enough?

Sound familiar?

Then, I had a realization: Maya has always seen me work.

For her, it’s "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" every single day.

While other kids watch their parents leave in the morning, drive to an office, and come back home, Maya watches me work from anywhere. From hotel lobbies and conference stages to beachside cafés and kitchen counters — my work moves with me.

Because my business is my freedom. It allows me to design a life where work and life blend, where vacations and business trips sometimes happen in the same place.

But let’s be honest — choosing this life means choosing it again and again.

There are moments when doubt creeps in. When our kids say something that makes us second-guess everything. When we feel the weight of balancing ambition and motherhood.

And in those moments, we have to remind ourselves: We chose this. We keep choosing this.

And we would choose it all over again.

Maya has been growing up alongside my business.

She’s watched me take calls, sit in on coaching sessions, and prepare for keynotes. She’s jumped on stage after speeches and grabbed the mic like she was born to lead. She’s been in rooms full of powerful humans who are building something meaningful, witnessing firsthand what’s possible.

And you know what? That’s not a bad thing.

She is learning about independence, ambition, and what it takes to create a life on her own terms. She is absorbing lessons about resilience, confidence, and vision — not from books, but by watching me live it.

So, to every mama reading this, questioning if you’re doing enough — I see you.

We are not just raising children.

We are raising the women and men they are going to become one day.

Let’s embrace the beautiful chaos of this journey, knowing that we are shaping not just their childhood, but their future.

Our kids watching us work isn’t a bad thing.

Our kids aren’t just watching us type away at our laptops or take calls between snack breaks. They’re watching us build something. They’re witnessing what dedication, resilience, and ambition look like in real time.

For so long, work and motherhood have been framed as two opposing forces — one always taking from the other. But what if we started seeing it differently? What if, instead of worrying that our kids see us working, we embraced the fact that they are seeing us create?

They’re growing up in a front-row seat to possibility. They’re seeing firsthand that dreams don’t just happen — they’re built.

So, the next time you catch yourself wondering if you’re doing enough, remind yourself of this: You are showing them what’s possible. And that? That is more than enough. 💛

When the mom guilt starts to creep in — close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose for four counts… hold for four… and exhale for six.

Now, place a hand on your heart and remind yourself: My presence is enough. My love is enough. I am enough.

Guilt thrives in the gaps between expectation and reality, but the truth is, your child isn’t keeping score. They feel your love in the small moments: the eye contact, the bedtime hugs, the way you show up, even in the midst of it all.

Breathe that in. Let it settle. You are not failing — you are leading, loving, and showing them what’s possible.
